Mr. Alpesh Patel, Director Marketing Dutron Plastics Limited is a second generation entrepreneur who has been at the helm of affairs in Dutron Plastics Limited for the last more than 13 years. In a candid interview with the polymerupdate team, he talks about the various pioneering products introduced by the company and the journey of the company from its inception

Polymerupdate : When was Dutron Plastics Limited founded ?

Mr. Alpesh Patel : Dutron Plastics Limited was founded in 1962. We started with production of PVC & PE garden pipes on a very small scale. We are the pioneers in manufacture of PVC hose pipes in India. We also take pride in saying that we are the largest manufacturers of PVC hoses in India and one of the largest manufacturers of plastic pipe systems in India. We are a BSE listed public company since 1994 and have achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification.

 

Polymerupdate : Tell us how you broadened your production base from there ?

Mr. Alpesh Patel : In the early 70s we entered into a technical collaboration with Japanese Company Totaku Inc and started delivery of suction pipes in the name of Dutron Kanaflex. In the early 80s, we introduced PVC nylon braded hose under the brand name Duplon. This product is used in air pneumatics for measuring hydraulic pressure and is a complete replacement of rubber aided hose.
 

Polymerupdate : What were your collaborations for new products in the 90s ?

Mr. Alpesh Patel : In the early 90s, we entered the PE pipe market with technical licensing from Wavin Overseas B.V Netherlands. In the late 90s we also forayed into PVC pipes and fittings with licensing from the same company.
 

Polymerupdate : Which are the industries you cater to ?

Mr. Alpesh Patel : We offer a complete plastics solution for piping applications in several markets. In the civil sector, we cater to the irrigation, drainage, sewer and gardening industry. We also cater to the chemicals, effluents and food industries. In the utilites sector, we are catering to the water, gas and cable ducting business. We are also catering to the Soil, Waste and Rain Water (SWR) and plumbing business.
 

Polymerupdate : Where are your plants located ?

Mr. Alpesh Patel : The manufacturing plants of the Dutron group are located at Vatva in Ahmedabad, Bharuch and a modern plant at Kheda.
 

Polymerupdate : What are the awards received by you for your contribution to the polymer industry  ?

Mr. Alpesh Patel : We have received several export awards from PLEXCONCIL of India in the past.
