Asian Market News & prices of Methanol

Methanol prices gallop higher in Asia - Dec 21st, 2009 [07:55]

Methanol prices in many parts of Asia firmed last week. Availability constraints prompted sellers with cargoes to hike their offer prices. Although demand for prompt cargoes was thin in some parts of Asia owing to the approaching year end, several buyers were seen seeking January deliveries. CFR Korea prices of methanol were assessed up at the USD 305/mt levels while CFR Japan prices were assessed at the USD 300/mt levels. CFR Taiwan prices were assessed at the USD 295/mt levels. Offers were pegged higher at above the USD 310/mt levels. CFR India assessed methanol rates were sharply up at the USD 285/mt levels with offers pegged higher. Methanol sellers confirmed that demand in India and in South East Asia remained firm while spot supplies were limited. A week on week gain in methanol prices in India of over USD 40/mt, reaffirmed the bullish pricing trends.

Methanol plant planned to be taken offstream by China Bluestar - Mar 9th, 2011 [06:55]

A Chinese industry source informed a polymerupdate team member that a methanol plant operated by China Bluestar Petrochemicals is planned to be taken offstream. The source said, "a maintenance turnaround is planned to be undertaken at the plant in mid September 2011. The shutdown will remain in force for around one month. At present, the plant is running at full rates.” The source added, “located at Harbin, Heilongjiang province, the plant has a production capacity of 100,000 mt/year."
