PS plant operated by Siam Polystyrene at full rates - Mar 8, 2011 [04:40]
A Thailand based industry source informed a polymerupdate team member that a PS plant operated by Siam Polystyrene Co Ltd, Thailand is running at full rates.
The source said, "since early last month, the plant is running at full rates. A stable demand exists for the product in the domestic markets. At present, there are no plans to undertake a maintenance turnaround at the plant."
The source added, “located at Map Ta Phut, Rayong province, Thailand, the plant has a production capacity of 120,000 mt/year.”
Siam Polystyrene Co Ltd is a joint venture between the Siam Cement Group and Dow Chemicals.
PS plant restarted by HongKong Petrochemicals - Mar 3, 2011 [11:30]
An industry source based in Hong Kong informed a polymerupdate team member that a polystyrene (PS) plant operated by HongKong Petrochemicals has been restarted.
The source said, "the plant restarted operations on March 2. The plant had been taken offstream for a maintenance turnaround on February 14. Run rates at the plant are planned to be ramped up over the next few days. The company majorly sells material to China and South Korea.”
The source added, “located at the Yeun Long Industrial Estate, HongKong, the plant comprises of one GPPS line and one HIPS line having a combined production capacity of 140,000 mt/year."

PS prices assessed flat in Europe - Mar 7, 2011 [13:35]
PS prices in Europe last week were assessed unchanged from the week before. While GPPS contract prices were assessed at the Euro 1785/mt FD North West Europe and FD Italy levels, HIPS contract prices were assessed
at the Euro 1870/mt FD North West Europe and FD Italy levels.
In the spot markets, GPPS prices were assessed at the Euro 1460/mt FD North West Europe levels while HIPS prices were assessed at the Euro 1540/mt FD North West Europe levels.
A buyer of PS when contacted, briefly said while requesting his identity not be revealed, “ although we are aware about the current strength in global energy rates, the unrest in Libya, rising prices of naphtha and gains in
SM contract price settlements for the month, we are unable to accept the high price quotes for PS for the month of March.
This is not seasonally a robust time for PS consumption in Europe and we are therefore unable to pass on the rising raw material costs to our buyers.”
