Reconstruction of the PLALOC™ Production System at Idemitsu Unitech
Idemitsu Unitech Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Takashi Akiyama, hereinafter “Idemitsu Unitech”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President: Kazuhisa Nakano, hereinafter “Idemitsu”) now launches production after completing reconstruction of its production system for its original zipper tape, “PLALOC™”* while establishing a new production line at the Mie Plant as a second production base.
“PLALOC™” is a high-quality zipper tape originally developed by Idemitsu Unitech in 1986. It is used in a wide variety of applications ranging from food storage bags and poultice bags to vacuum storage bags for futon bedding. The commercialized product comprises only the tape segment of the zipper bag, allowing free customization to match bag materials, and the product is featured as the industry’s first aftermarket add-on type zipper tape, with a high share in the sales boasting top sales share in Japan and the third share on global markets.
It is expected that the growth in demand for the product will remain high both in Japan and overseas, giving rise to the need to reinforce production capacity and further reduce costs. While, up to the present, “PLALOC™” has been manufactured at the Shizuoka Plant, to address these issues, a new production line has been established on the premises of the Mie Plant. This means that there are now two production bases in Japan and this will enable greater stability of supply to meet growing demand.
Idemitsu Unitech will further intensify its efforts to realize enhanced productivity and cost reductions and strive to expand its share on high-performance product markets both in Japan and overseas.
