Ethylene prices fall in Southeast Asia
Ethylene prices inched lower in Southeast Asia, while remaining stable in Northeast Asia on Tuesday.
CFR South East Asia ethylene prices on Tuesday were assessed at the USD 960-970/mt levels, a drop of USD (-10/mt) from Monday’s assessed levels. An industry source in Asia informed a Polymerupdate team member, “Prices fell on account of bearish energy values and weak regional demand trends.”
Meanwhile. CFR North East Asia ethylene prices on Tuesday were assessed at the USD 870-880/mt levels, unchanged from Monday.
In plant news, Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical is likely to shut down its High density polyethylene (HDPE) unit in mid-September 2024. The unit is slated to remain offline until end September 2024. Located in Nanjing, China, the HDPE unit has a production capacity of 70,000 mt/year.
