Polypropylene (PP) prices continue to journey north in Asia

This week, polypropylene (PP) prices journeyed northward in Asia. Bullish upstream energy and propylene values coupled with strong demand trends across the Asian region, prompted sellers to steer their offer prices higher.

CFR Far East Asia prices of PP raffia and PP injection were assessed up at the USD 1215/mt levels, a week on week rise of USD 20/mt. PP film prices were assessed at the USD 1225/mt levels while BOPP prices were also assessed at the USD 1225/mt levels, both up USD 15/mt from the previous week. PP block copolymer prices were assessed higher at the USD 1245/mt levels, a gain of USD 15/mt on the week.

In South East Asia (SEA), PP raffia and PP injection prices were assessed higher at the USD 1230/mt CFR levels, a week on week increase of USD 20/mt. PP film prices were assessed at the USD 1250/mt levels while BOPP prices were also at the USD 1250/mt levels, both up USD 20/mt from the previous week. PP block copolymer prices were assessed higher at the USD 1250/mt CFR levels, a week on week rise of USD 10/mt .
In Vietnam, a Taiwanese producer has offered its PP raffia and PP injection grades at the USD 1260/mt CFR levels, for February 2018 shipment. However, deals are heard to have been concluded at the lower price of USD 1230/mt levels in the region.
In India, PP raffia and PP injection prices were assessed up at the USD 1235/mt CFR levels, a week on week gain of USD 10/mt. PP film prices were assessed at the USD 1265/mt CFR levels while BOPP prices were also at the USD 1265/mt CFR levels, both up USD 10/mt on the week. PP block copolymer prices were steady at the USD 1265/mt CFR levels.

In Sri Lanka, PP raffia and PP injection prices were assessed up at the USD 1240/mt CFR levels, a week on week increase of USD 10/mt. PP film prices were assessed at the USD 1260/mt CFR levels while BOPP prices were also assessed at the USD 1260/mt CFR levels, both up USD 10/mt from the previous week. PP block copolymer prices were higher at the USD 1280/mt CFR levels, a week on week rise of USD 5/mt.

In Pakistan, PP raffia and PP injection prices were assessed higher at the USD 1230/mt CFR levels, a gain of USD 20/mt on the week. PP film prices were assessed at the USD 1260/mt CFR levels while BOPP prices were assessed also the USD 1260/mt CFR levels, both up USD 25/mt from the previous week. PP block copolymer prices were higher at the USD 1280/mt CFR levels, a week on week increase of USD 15/mt.

In Bangladesh, PP raffia and PP injection prices were assessed up at the USD 1235/mt CFR levels, a week on week gain of USD 10/mt . PP film prices were assessed at the USD 1260/mt CFR levels while BOPP prices were also assessed the USD 1260/mt CFR levels, both up USD 10/mt from the previous week. PP block copolymer prices were higher at the USD 1280/mt CFR levels, a week on week increase of USD 10/mt.

Feedstock propylene prices on Wednesday were assessed at the USD 1015/mt FOB Korea levels while CFR China prices were assessed at the USD 1085/mt levels, both up USD 25/mt from the previous week.

In plant news, MRPL has shut its 440,000 mt/year PP plant, located at Mangalore in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, was shut on January 22, 2018 for a maintenance turnaround. The plant is likely to remain shut for around 1-2 weeks.
