High density polyethylene (HDPE) prices rally in Asia

HDPE prices bolstered higher in Asia this week. Reports of persistent strong demand sentiments pushed HDPE prices sharply higher across the Asian region.

Bullish import offers from overseas producers and deals concluded at higher price levels further supported the price rise.

In Far East Asia, HDPE film prices were assessed up at the USD 1350/mt levels, a week on week increase of USD 25/mt. HDPE yarn prices were assessed up at the USD 1290/mt levels, a sharp gain of USD 35/mt from the previous week. HDPE blow moulding prices were higher at the USD 1345/mt, a sharp week on week rise of USD 40/mt. HDPE injection moulding prices were assessed at the USD 1260/mt levels, a spike of USD 40/mt from the previous week.

In South East Asia, HDPE film prices were assessed up at the USD 1370/mt CFR levels, a week on week surge of USD 40/mt. HDPE injection prices were at the USD 1275/mt levels, a sharp rise of USD 30/mt on the week. HDPE yarn prices were assessed at the USD 1310/mt levels, a week on week spike of USD 40/mt. HDPE BM prices were higher at the USD 1360/mt levels, a steep rise of USD 40/mt on the week.

In India, HDPE film prices were assessed up at the USD 1300/mt CFR levels, a sharp week on week increase of USD 40/mt. HDPE BM grade prices were at the USD 1280/mt levels, a rise of USD 40/mt on the week. HDPE injection rates were assessed at the USD 1240/mt levels, up USD 30/mt from the previous week. HDPE yarn prices were at the USD 1300/mt levels, a week on week spike of USD 50/mt.

In Pakistan, prices of HDPE yarn were at the USD 1300/mt CFR levels, a steep week on week gain of USD 40/mt. HDPE BM grade prices were at the USD 1310/mt levels, a spike of USD 50/mt on the week. HDPE Injection grade prices were assessed at the USD 1270/mt levels, up USD 30/mt on the week. HDPE film were assessed higher at the USD 1360/mt CFR levels, a surge of USD 55/mt from the previous week.

In Sri Lanka, prices of HDPE film were assessed up at the USD 1290/mt CFR levels, a steep week on week increase of USD 40/mt. HDPE BM prices were assessed at the USD 1270/mt levels while HDPE injection grade prices were at the USD 1250/mt levels, both up USD 30/mt on the week. HDPE yarn rates were higher at the USD 1280/mt levels, a sharp week on week rise of USD 40/mt.

Bangladesh, HDPE film prices were assessed at the USD 1310/mt CFR levels, a surge of USD 55/mt from the previous week. HDPE BM were assessed at the USD 1280/mt levels while HDPE injection prices were at the USD 1250/mt levels, both up USD 40/mt on the week. HDPE yarn grade prices were at the USD 1290/mt levels, a week on week spike of USD 50/mt.

Feedstock ethylene prices on Wednesday were assessed at the USD 1245/mt CFR South East Asia levels while CFR North East Asia prices were at the USD 1335/mt levels, both down USD 30/mt from the previous week.

In plant news, Indian Oil Corp Ltd (IOCL) is likely to restart its 350,000 mt/year HDPE/LLDPE swing plant, located at Panipat, Haryana, towards the end of this week. The plant was shut on January 22, 2018 owing to a blast.
