Ethylene prices continue to quote lower in Asia

Ethylene prices journeyed southward in Asia last week. Reports of bearish buying interest coupled strong selling action witnessed in the region , together pulled prices lower in Asia.

On Friday, FOB Korea prices of ethylene were assessed at the USD 1285/mt levels while CFR North East Asia prices of ethylene were assessed at the USD 1315/mt mark, both down USD 20/mt from the previous week.

CFR South East Asia prices were assessed lower at the USD 1225/mt levels, a week on week fall of USD 20/mt.

In plant news, In plant news, SK Global Chemical (SKGC) has undertaken an emergency shutdown last week at its 690,000 mt/year No. 2 naphtha cracker off-stream.

In other plant news, CPC Corp has recently restarted its No. 4 cracker. The cracker was taken off-line for maintenance in mid-November 2017 and was supposed to resume operations in mid-January 2018. Located in Linyuan, Taiwan, the cracker has an ethylene capacity of 380,000 mt/year and propylene capacity of 193,000 mt/year.

Yeochun NCC (YNCC) is likely to undertake planned maintenance at its No.2 naphtha cracker, in end-February 2018. The cracker is slated to remain off-line for around 10-12 days. Located in Yeosu, South Korea, the cracker has an ethylene production capacity of 580,000 mt/year and propylene capacity of 270,000 mt/year.
