High density polyethylene (HDPE) continue to march higher in Asia

This week, HDPE prices bolstered higher in Asia. Bullish import offers from the overseas suppliers, deals concluded at higher price levels coupled with persistent tight product availability, together helped sellers of HDPE to raise their prices higher across the Asian region.

In Far East Asia, HDPE film prices were assessed up at the USD 1370/mt levels, a week on week gain of USD 20/mt. HDPE injection moulding prices were assessed at the USD 1270/mt levels while HDPE yarn prices were assessed at the USD 1320/mt levels, both up USD 10/mt from the previous week. HDPE blow moulding prices were higher at the USD 1380/mt, a week on week increase of USD 20/mt.

In South East Asia, HDPE film prices were assessed up at the USD 1400/mt CFR levels, a rise of USD 15/mt on the week. HDPE injection prices were at the USD 1300/mt levels, a week on week increase of USD 15/mt. HDPE yarn prices were assessed at the USD 1350/mt levels while HDPE BM prices were at the USD 1400/mt levels, both up USD 20/mt from the previous week.

In Vietnam, a Middle Eastern producer has offered its HDPE film grade at the USD 1400/mt CFR levels, for March 2018 shipment.

In India, HDPE BM grade prices were up at the USD 1400/mt levels, a steep week on week increase of USD 70/mt. HDPE yarn prices were at the USD 1340/mt levels, a sharp gain of USD 30/mt on the week. HDPE injection rates were assessed at the USD 1330/mt levels, a week on week rise of USD 20/mt. HDPE film prices were assessed higher at the USD 1420/mt CFR levels, a surge of USD 80/mt from the previous week.

In India, a UAE producer has offered its HDPE film grade at the USD 1450-1460/mt levels, for shipment in March 2018. A Middle Eastern producer has also offered its HDPE film grade at the USD 1470/mt levels. However, deals were heard to have been sealed at the USD 1420/mt levels.

In Pakistan, prices of HDPE yarn were up at the USD 1370/mt CFR levels, a sharp week on week increase of USD 40/mt. HDPE BM grade prices were at the USD 1430/mt levels, a spike of USD 60/mt on the week. HDPE Injection grade prices were assessed at the USD 1380/mt levels, a surge of USD 60/mt from the previous week. HDPE film were assessed higher at the USD 1430/mt CFR levels, a steep week on week gain of USD 40/mt.

In Sri Lanka, prices of HDPE film were assessed up at the USD 1410/mt CFR levels, a week on week surge of USD 60/mt. HDPE BM prices were assessed at the USD 1400/mt levels, a steep increase of USD 60/mt on the week. HDPE injection grade prices were at the USD 1350/mt levels, a week on week spike of USD 50/mt. HDPE yarn rates were at the USD 1360/mt levels, up USD 30/mt from the previous week.

Bangladesh, HDPE film prices were assessed up at the USD 1430/mt CFR levels, a week on week spike of USD 70/mt. HDPE BM were assessed at the USD 1410/mt levels, a steep rise of USD 60/mt on the week. HDPE injection prices were at the USD 1360/mt levels, a week on week surge of USD 70/mt. HDPE yarn grade prices were higher at the USD 1370/mt levels, a sharp week on week increase of USD 50/mt.

Feedstock ethylene prices on Wednesday were assessed at the USD 1195/mt CFR South East Asia levels, a week on week fall of USD 10/mt. CFR North East Asia prices were at the USD 1255/mt levels, a tumble of USD 40/mt from the previous week.

In plant news, Indian Oil Corp Ltd (IOCL) has restarted its 350,000 mt/year HDPE/LLDPE swing plant, located at Panipat, Haryana, early this week, following an unplanned shutdown on January 22, 2018.
