Ethylene prices gain in Asia

On Monday, September 20, 2021 at 08:30 IST

Last week, ethylene prices climbed higher in Asia. The price rise was on the back of a sharp week on week gain in upstream crude and naphtha values.

Reports of continued tight product avails further contributed to the price rise.

On Friday, CFR North East Asia ethylene prices were assessed at the USD 1110-1115/mt levels, a spike of USD (+40/mt) from the previous week.

CFR South East Asia prices were assessed at the USD 1055-1060/mt levels, a week on week rise of USD (+5/mt).

In plant news, SP Olefins has curtailed run rates at its cracker to around 70% of production capacity since mid-September 2021. Located at Jiangsu, China, the cracker has an ethylene production capacity of 780,000 mt/year and a propylene production capacity of 180,000 mt/year.
