ONGC Chairman Sudhir Vasudeva inaugurates Oil & Gas World Expo 2014 – A POLYMERUPDATE Report

The Inaugural Ceremony

POLYMERUPDATE had the opportunity to attend the inaugural ceremony of Oil & Gas World Expo 2014 held at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai on February 10, 2014. The event is organized by ChemTECH Foundation, a leading industry association in India. Resurgence of Oil & Gas Sector in India: Prospects and Challenges is the theme of Oil & Gas Expo 2014, which is held concurrently with Shipping, Marine & Ports EXPO 2014 and EnerTECH World Expo 2014. The three-day event is expected to draw a large number of visitors from the oil and gas industry all over the world.

The inaugural ceremony included welcome speeches from Mr. Maulik Jasubhai of the ChemTECH Foundation and Mr. Sudhir Vasudeva—Chairman and Managing Director, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). The ceremony included keynote addresses by noted industry dignitaries such as Mr. A.K Purwaha, Chairman & Managing Director, Engineers India Limited, Dr. Ashok Kumar Balyan—Managing Director & CEO, Petronet LNG Limited and Mr. Sanjay Joshi—Managing Director, Aker Solutions. Following the inaugural ceremony, Mr. Vasudeva also formally inaugurated the three-day exhibition by cutting the ribbon.
Various issues such as the importance of the support of the government for the development of the oil and gas sector and the need to aggregate efforts within and outside of the country were discussed at great lengths at the inaugural ceremony. The audience, which also included engineering students and naval cadets were informed about the existing trends in the oil and gas industry. Dr. Ashok Kumar Balyan highlighted the fact that India being the fourth largest energy consuming country in the world, pays a high cost for it and spoke about the need of energy conservation in the country. He said that in a developing country like India, it is always a challenge to make energy available at affordable prices and ensure uninterrupted supply.
