Propylene prices climb in parts of Asia

Propylene prices gained in some parts of Asia on Thursday.

CFR China prices were assessed higher at the USD 1115/mt mark, a gain of USD 10/mt from Wednesday’s assessed levels. Reports of stronger demand trends, tight regional product avails coupled with firmer downstream PP demand and pricing trends supported the price rise.

FOB Korea prices of propylene were assessed steady at the USD 1075/mt levels.

In plant news, Shell Singapore has taken its cracker off-stream, owing to water supply issue caused after a crack in the pipe. The company has undertaken an unplanned shutdown at the cracker on August 7, 2018. Further details on duration of the shutdown could not be ascertained. Located at Pulau Bukom Island in Singapore, the cracker has an ethylene production capacity of 960,000 mt/year and propylene capacity of 540,000 mt/year.

In other plant news, Petrochemical Corporation of Singapore (PCS) has undertaken a planned shutdown at its 450,000 mt/year No.1 cracker, Located at Jurong Island in Singapore, on July 12, 2018. The cracker is expected to remain off-line for around 5-6 weeks.
