Propylene prices witness a fall in Asia

Petrochemical industry | 15 Apr 2019 09:00 IST | Polymerupdate.com

Despite firmer upstream crude and naphtha values, propylene prices edged lower in Asia last week. The price fall was supported by dull buying interest coupled with improved regional product availability.

FOB Korea prices of propylene were assessed at the USD 860/mt, a drop of USD 10/mt from the previous week.

CFR China prices of propylene were assessed lower at the USD 900/mt levels, a week on week fall of USD 5/mt.

CFR South East Asia prices were at the USD 825/mt levels, a decline of USD 5/mt on the week.

In plant news, Borouge has restarted its 1.5 mmt/year No. 3 cracker, located at Ruwais, Abu Dhabi in UAE, in mid-March 2019. The cracker was shut for maintenance on January 5, 2019.

In other plant news, LG Chem Ltd has resumed production at its cracker, located at Daesan in South Korea, following a turnaround and debottlenecking exercise, last week. The cracker was shut on March 5, 2019. Following the expansion, the ethylene capacity has been increased by 230,000 MT to 780,000 mt/year and propylene capacity has been raised by 100,000 MT to 650,000 mt/year.
