Propylene prices edge higher in parts of Asia

On Thursday, propylene prices edged up in some parts of Asia. Prices climbed, mainly on account of persistent tight product availability coupled with improved regional buying trends.

FOB Korea prices were assessed at the USD 860/mt levels, a day on day rise of USD 5/mt.

CFR China propylene prices were assessed steady at the USD 890/mt levels.

In plant news, Asahi Kasei, has taken off-stream its cracker on January 14, 2020 owing to mechanical issues. Located at Mizushima, Japan, the cracker has an ethylene production capacity of 570,000 mt/year and propylene production capacity of 300,000 mt/year.

In other plant news, LG Chem Ltd, has taken off-stream its cracker on January 12, 2020 owing to technical issues. The cracker is likely to resume operations by January 17, 2020. Located at Daesan, South Korea, the cracker has an ethylene capacity of 230,000 mt/year and propylene capacity of 100,000 mt/year.
