  • Eggert Voscherau remains Vice Chairman and Industrial Relations Director until May 2008

In its meeting today (December 16, 2005), the Supervisory Board of BASF Aktiengesellschaft appointed Dr. Martin Brudermüller (44) to the Board of Executive Directors with effect from January 1, 2006. Brudermüller, who currently heads BASF’s Functional Polymers division, will assume responsibility for Asia and will be headquartered in Hong Kong effective April 1, 2006.

At the same time, the Supervisory Board extended Eggert Voscherau’s (62) term as Industrial Relations Director and Vice President of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF Aktiengesellschaft until the conclusion of the Annual Meeting in May 2008. Voscherau has been member of the Board of Executive Directors since 1996 and is responsible for Europe and for BASF’s sites in Ludwigshafen and Schwarzheide, Germany, and Antwerp, Belgium. Additionally, Voscherau is responsible for the functional divisions Human Resources and Environment, Safety & Energy.

Brudermüller started as a researcher at BASF in 1988 after being awarded a doctorate in chemistry by the University of Karlsruhe and a postdoc period in the United States. He started gaining his extensive business experience in new business development and marketing for intermediates. He was then delegated to Italy as head of marketing and sales for intermediates for the pharmaceutical industry. Brudermüller was appointed executive assistant to the Vice Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors in 1997 and was made responsible for the production of fat-soluble vitamins two years later. From 2001, he headed the functional unit Strategic Planning as Senior Vice President. Brudermüller has been responsible for BASF’s Functional Polymers division since February 2003. Products from this division include paper chemicals, adhesive raw materials, products for coatings and construction chemicals, as well as products for the cosmetics and hygiene industries.

“These changes to the Board of Executive Directors strengthen the regions and allow us to face up even better to the global challenges. Martin Brudermüller will focus entirely on the Asian growth region. This is a further signal of the important role that this region plays in BASF’s future,” said Dr. Jürgen Hambrecht, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors. He pointed out that, in addition to Brudermüller, all four of BASF’s key regions were represented by a member on the Board of Executive Directors: Eggert Voscherau (Europe), Klaus Peter Löbbe (North America and Mexico) and Dr. Kurt Bock (South America).

In addition to the changes to the Board of Executive Directors, the Board of Executive Directors also approved the following changes to its senior management:

Dr. Markus Kramer, Group Vice President of the Acrylic Monomers & Superabsorbents global business unit, Ludwigshafen, will, as President, assume responsibility for the Functional Polymers division effective January 1, 2006, thus succeeding Brudermüller.

The SupervisoryBoard of BASF Coatings AG, Münster, will be asked to elect Raimar Jahn, President, Performance Polymers, Frankfurt, as successor to Jean-Pierre Monteny, President and Chairman of the Board. Monteny will retire effective June 30, 2006.

Dr. Harald Lauke, President, Regional Functions & Market Efficiency Asia Pacific, will succeed Raimar Jahn as head of the Performance Polymers division, Frankfurt, effective May 1, 2006.
