This week, HDPE prices increased in the European region.
A European industry source while requesting to remain unidentified informed a Polymerupdate team member, “Even though demand picked up moderately in October, the overall sentiment remained downbeat as compared to demand trends typically witnessed in this time of the year. Meanwhile, market participants remained unclear about where the market was headed in the near to medium term and were seen buying only in minimal quantities. From a sectorial viewpoint, while demand was fairly stable from the packaging segment, buyers’ appetite from the construction sector had ebbed considerably.”
In the spot markets, HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1115-1125/mt FD North West Europe levels, while HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1095-1105/mt FD North West Europe levels, both gained by Euro (+10/mt) from the week. Meanwhile, HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1085-1095/mt FD North West Europe levels, a fall of Euro (-10/mt).

In the contract markets, HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1570-1575/mt FD NWE Germany and FD NWE Italy levels, both week on week higher by Euro (+35/mt). HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1570-1575/mt FD NWE France levels, sharply up by Euro (+35/mt) from the previous week. Meanwhile, HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the GBP 1365-1370/mt FD NWE UK levels, an increase of GBP (+35/mt) from last week.

In the contract markets, HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1545-1550/mt FD NWE Germany and FD NWE Italy levels, both trending up by Euro (+35/mt) from the previous week. HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1545-1550/mt FD NWE France levels, a sharp week on week gain of Euro (+35/mt). Meanwhile, HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the GBP 1345-1350/mt FD NWE UK levels, higher by GBP (+35/mt) from last week.
In the contract markets, HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1500-1505/mt FD NWE Germany and FD NWE Italy levels, both week on week sharply up Euro (+35/mt). HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1500-1505/mt FD NWE France levels, an increase in Euro (+35/mt) from last week. Meanwhile, HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the GBP 1305-1310/mt FD NWE UK levels, up by GBP (+35/mt) from the previous week.

FCA Antwerp HDPE film prices were assessed at the Euro 1100-1140/mt levels, a week on week rise of Euro (+10/mt). FCA Antwerp HDPE injection prices were assessed at the Euro 1070-1100/mt levels, a fall of Euro (-10/mt), while FCA Antwerp HDPE BM prices were assessed at the Euro 1070-1100/mt levels, unchanged week on week.
Ethylene spot prices on Thursday were assessed at the Euro 720-730/mt FD North West Europe levels, a week on week tumble of Euro (-45/mt).
Feedstock ethylene contract price for October 2023 settled at the Euro 1260/MT FD North West Europe levels. This price represents a sharp gain of Euro 65/mt from its September 2023 settlement levels.
