This week, HDPE spot prices plunged in the European region.
An industry source in Europe informed a Polymerupdate team member, "Trading activity has thinned in the region. Buyers were reportedly not keen on making material procurements, while sellers were steadily focused on destocking inventory. Buyer interest has ebbed with demand weakening from derivative industries, indicating a contraction in European market activity. Meanwhile, pressure is rising on sellers to offload their inventories before the end of the year. However, buyers were buying on an as-required basis, expecting prices to drop further."
The source also added, "With current market conditions marked by tepid demand and sufficient supplies, prices are likely to maintain a persistently bearish trajectory."
HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1115-1125/mt FD North West Europe levels, a sharp week on week fall of Euro (-40/mt). HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1115-1125/mt FD North West Europe Levels, sharply lower by Euro (-40/mt) from the previous week. Meanwhile, HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1095-11105/mt FD North West Europe levels, a week on week decline of Euro (-40/mt).
In the contract markets, HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1550-1555/mt FD NWE Germany and FD NWE Italy levels, both flat from last week. HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1550-1555/mt FD NWE France levels, steady week on week. Meanwhile, HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the GBP 1295-1300/mt FD NWE UK levels, marginally higher by GBP (+5/mt) from the previous week.
In the contract markets, HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1530-1535/mt FD NWE Germany and FD NWE Italy levels, both left unchanged week on week. HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1530-1535/mt FD NWE France levels, steady from last week. Meanwhile, HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the GBP 1280-1285/mt FD NWE UK levels, a week on week rise of GBP (+5/mt).
In the contract markets, HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1490-1485/mt FD NWE Germany and FD NWE Italy levels, both rolled over from the previous week. HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1490-1495/mt FD NWE France levels, constant week on week. Meanwhile, HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the GBP 1245-1250/mt FD NWE UK levels, up GBP (+5/mt) from last week.
FCA Antwerp HDPE film prices were assessed at the Euro 1100-1140/mt levels, sharply lower by Euro (-40/mt) week on week. FCA Antwerp HDPE BM prices were assessed at the Euro 1100-1130/mt levels, a sharp drop of Euro (-40/mt) from the previous week. Meanwhile, FCA Antwerp HDPE injection prices were assessed at the Euro 1080-1110/mt levels, a week on week decline of Euro (-40/mt).
Ethylene spot prices on Thursday were assessed at the Euro 885-895/mt FD North West Europe levels, arise of Euro (+15/mt) from last week.
European ethylene feedstock contract price for October 2024 settled at the Euro 1182.50/MT FD North West Europe levels. This price represents a sharp drop of Euro (-32.50/mt) from its September 2024 settlement levels.
