Ethylene prices in Asia plunge on weak buying sentiment and softer energy prices
Last week, ethylene prices tumbled in the Asian region.
An industry source in Asia informed a Polymerupdate team member, “Ethylene prices declined sharply during the week as weak downstream demand and falling energy values continued to weigh on market sentiment. Buying activity remained subdued, with most participants limiting purchases to immediate requirements amid uncertainty over consumption trends. Demand from the derivatives sector also remained weak, reducing overall trading momentum. Additionally, competitive imports from neighboring markets intensified pricing pressure and led to aggressive negotiations, further weighing on ethylene values.”
CFR South East Asia ethylene prices were assessed at USD 1165-1175/mt levels, a sharp fall of USD (-60/mt) from the previous week.
CFR North East Asia ethylene prices were assessed at USD 1095–1105/mt levels, a week-on-week slide of USD (-80/mt).
FOB Korea ethylene prices were assessed at USD 1035–1045/mt levels while FOB Japan ethylene prices were assessed at USD 1030-1040/mt levels, both steeply lower by USD (-150/mt) from the previous week.
