Ethylene prices in Asia slump amid weak downstream demand

Last week, ethylene prices experienced a sharp decline in the Asian region.

An industry source in Asia informed a Polymerupdate team member, “Asian ethylene prices fell sharply amid weak demand fundamentals and subdued market activity. Buyers remained cautious, limiting purchases to immediate requirements as expectations of further price declines persisted. Meanwhile, suppliers continued to lower offers in an effort to stimulate sales and preserve market share. The combination of weak downstream demand and aggressive selling pressure kept market sentiment firmly bearish throughout the week.”

CFR South East Asia ethylene prices were assessed at USD 1105-1115/mt levels, a sharp fall of USD (-60/mt) from the previous week.

CFR North East Asia ethylene prices were assessed at USD 985–995/mt levels, week-on-week steeply lower by USD (-110/mt).

FOB Korea ethylene prices were assessed at USD 955–965/mt levels while FOB Japan ethylene prices were assessed at USD 950-960/mt levels, both steeply decreased by USD (-80/mt) from the previous week.
