Ethylene prices tumble across Asia on weak demand and oversupply
Last week, ethylene prices declined sharply across Asia as ample product availability and subdued downstream demand continued to weigh on the market.
An industry source in Asia informed a Polymerupdate team member, "Asian ethylene prices came under pressure as abundant supply outpaced demand from downstream derivative producers. Weak margins in derivative sectors limited feedstock purchases, while buyers focused on securing lower-priced cargoes. In response, suppliers reduced offers to stimulate trading activity, resulting in a broad-based decline in regional ethylene prices.”
CFR Southeast Asia ethylene prices were assessed at USD 820-830/mt levels, down sharply by USD (-75/mt) from the previous week.
CFR Northeast Asia ethylene prices were assessed at USD 830-840/mt levels, lower by USD (-35/mt) week on week.
FOB Korea ethylene prices were assessed at USD 790-800/mt levels while FOB Japan ethylene prices were assessed at USD 785-795/mt levels, with both markets down by USD (-45/mt) from the previous week.
