Low density polyethylene (LDPE) prices rise across Asia on higher feedstock costs and tight supply

02 Sep 2026 14:45 IST
This week, LDPE film grade prices in Asia moved higher, with gains recorded across Far East Asia, Southeast Asia, and the key South Asian markets of India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. Firmer ethylene feedstock values, higher import offers from overseas suppliers, and tight spot availability collectively lifted market sentiment, while cautious downstream buying limited the pace of trade.

An industry source in Asia, on condition of anonymity, informed a Polymerupdate team member, "The Asian LDPE film market has shifted firmly to the upside this week, with higher energy costs and stronger ethylene feedstock values increasing production expenses. Elevated import offers from overseas suppliers, coupled with low spot inventory levels, have supported the upward price movement. Higher freight costs and shipment delays may have further tightened regional availability. Meanwhile, downstream converters continue to adopt a cautious approach amid ongoing market uncertainty, which could keep buying interest measured in the near term."

In Far East Asia, LDPE Film grade prices were assessed at USD 1220 to 1320/mt CFR levels, rising, USD (+20/mt) week on week. A producer from Saudi Arabia offered LDPE film grade at USD 1220/mt CFR levels in China, while a Middle Eastern producer offered LDPE film grade at USD 1320/mt levels.

In South East Asia, LDPE Film grade prices were assessed at USD 1360 to 1500/mt CFR levels, moving higher, USD (+30/+40/mt) compared to the prior week. A Middle Eastern producer offered LDPE film grade at USD 1500/mt levels, while another overseas producer offered LDPE film grade at USD 1360/mt levels.

In India, LDPE Film grade prices were assessed at USD 1420 to 1480/mt CFR levels, gaining, USD (+20/+30/mt) week on week. A Middle Eastern producer offered LDPE film grade at USD 1420/mt levels, while a producer from Saudi Arabia offered LDPE film grade at USD 1480/mt levels. Meanwhile, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) announced a revision in LDPE prices, with prices for LDPE Extrusion Coating (EC) and Milk Pouch (MP) grades raised by Rs.3/kg basic, while prices for other LDPE grades were increased by Re.1/kg basic, with effect from September 1, 2026.

In Pakistan, LDPE Film grade prices were assessed at USD 1430 to 1490/mt CFR levels, firming, USD (+30/mt) from the previous week. A Middle Eastern producer offered LDPE film grade at USD 1420/mt levels, while a producer from Saudi Arabia offered LDPE film grade at USD 1480/mt levels.

In Sri Lanka, LDPE Film grade prices were assessed at USD 1450 to 1520/mt CFR levels, moving higher, USD (+50/mt) compared to the prior week. An overseas producer offered LDPE film grade at USD 1450/mt levels, while a producer from Saudi Arabia offered LDPE film grade at USD 1520/mt levels.

In Bangladesh, LDPE Film grade prices were assessed at USD 1420 to 1500/mt CFR levels, edging higher, USD (+30/+40/mt) week on week. A producer from Saudi Arabia offered LDPE film grade at USD 1500/mt CFR levels, while another overseas producer offered LDPE film at USD 1490/mt levels.

On the feedstock side, ethylene prices were assessed at USD 1130 to 1140/mt CFR Northeast Asia levels, gaining USD (+65/mt) from the previous week. CFR Southeast Asia ethylene prices were assessed at USD 1110 to 1120/mt levels, moving higher, USD (+65/mt) week on week. The sharp uptick in ethylene values across Northeast and Southeast Asia appears to have added cost side support to LDPE producers, reinforcing firmer offers into the polymer market.
