Weekly: Asian ethylene prices rise amid higher upstream costs and tight supply

15 Sep 2026 09:30 IST
Last week, ethylene prices strengthened across the Asian region.

An industry source in Asia informed a Polymerupdate team member, "Asian ethylene prices moved higher as rising upstream energy values, amid escalating geopolitical tensions, increased production and replacement costs. Tighter supply and limited spot availability further strengthened seller sentiment, prompting suppliers to maintain firmer price indications. However, buyers remained cautious and largely stayed on the sidelines, preferring to wait for clearer market direction before committing to fresh purchases. Muted downstream demand and subdued buying interest kept overall trading activity limited, restricting the extent of the price gains.”

CFR Southeast Asia ethylene prices were assessed at USD 1145-1155/mt levels, a gain of USD (+35/mt) from the previous week.

CFR Northeast Asia ethylene prices were assessed at USD 1185-1195/mt levels, a week-on-week rise of USD (+40/mt).

FOB Korea ethylene prices were assessed at USD 1175-1185/mt levels, while FOB Japan prices were assessed at USD 1170-1180/mt levels, both sharply higher by USD (+40/mt) from the previous week.
