Low density polyethylene (LDPE) prices rise across Asia amid shipment delays and limited import availability

23 Sep 2026 14:00 IST
This week, LDPE film grade prices in Asia moved higher across most markets, supported by persistent shipment delays, cautious import buying, and firmer domestic offers in Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent, while Far East Asia held steady amid pre-holiday demand fatigue.

An industry source in Asia, on condition of anonymity, informed a Polymerupdate team member, "LDPE prices rose in Asia amid higher freight rates, shipment delays, and uncertain delivery timelines, complicating inventory planning and keeping buyers cautious about import purchases. Middle Eastern cargoes appeared to be particularly affected, while Chinese cargoes were relatively more available. As a result, market participants preferred sourcing from local markets to meet their requirements rather than relying on imports. In the Chinese domestic market, downstream stockpiling ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays had largely concluded, weighing on fresh buying interest. In the spot market, some traders also offered modest discounts to clear inventories. Meanwhile, in other Asian markets, limited import availability and firmer producer offers provided support to LDPE prices. However, buyers remained resistant to higher price levels, limiting overall trading activity.”

In Far East Asia, LDPE Film grade prices were assessed at USD 1320 to 1370/mt CFR levels, rolled over from the previous week. Demand appears subdued as downstream stockpiling has largely wound down ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays, keeping trading activity muted.

In Southeast Asia, LDPE Film grade prices were assessed at USD 1460 to 1650/mt CFR levels, moving higher, USD (+60/+70/mt) week on week. Saudi Arabian and Middle Eastern producers offered film grade transit shipments at USD 1620 to 1650/mt levels, while a Northeast Asian producer offered film grade at USD 1460/mt levels in the Philippines. Middle Eastern selling indications were heard at USD 1400/mt levels in the wider region, with limited import availability lending support to producer offers. Due to limited import availability and continued uncertainty in the local market, domestic producers in Southeast Asia raised LDPE prices.

In India, LDPE Film grade prices were assessed at USD 1480 to 1530/mt CFR levels, moving higher, USD (+20/+30/mt) from last week. A Saudi Arabian producer offered LDPE film grade at USD 1530/mt CFR levels, while some deals were heard at USD 1480/mt levels. In the domestic market, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has revised its LDPE prices upward multiple times since September 1, 2026, with cumulative increases totalling Rs. 43.50/kg for extrusion grade, Rs. 8/kg for milk pouch grade, and Rs. 7.50/kg for general grade.

In Pakistan, LDPE Film grade prices were assessed at USD 1510 to 1540/mt CFR levels, firming, USD (+10/mt) compared to the prior week. Overseas producers offered LDPE film grades in the range of USD 1510 to 1540/mt CFR levels for October and November shipments.

In Sri Lanka, LDPE Film grade prices were assessed at USD 1540 to 1600/mt CFR levels, rising, USD (+20/mt) week on week.

In Bangladesh, LDPE Film grade prices were assessed at USD 1510 to 1550/mt CFR levels, gaining, USD (+20/mt) from the previous week. A Saudi Arabian producer offered LDPE film grade at USD 1510/mt CFR levels, while another overseas supplier offered at USD 1550/mt levels.

On the feedstock side, ethylene prices were assessed at USD 1195 to 1205/mt CFR North East Asia levels, holding steady week-on-week. CFR Southeast Asia ethylene prices were assessed at USD 1145 to 1155/mt levels, unchanged from the previous week. The stable feedstock backdrop appears to have had limited immediate impact on LDPE film sentiment, with logistics and regional supply factors playing a more prominent role.
