- Company achieved all production targets set in the 2024-2028+ PE. FUT of 93% represents the highest utilization of the refining park since 2014, considering the current refineries
FPSO Marshal Duque de Caxias
In 2024, Petrobras achieved all production targets established in its 2024-2028+ Strategic Plan, within the range of ±4%. Total oil and natural gas production reached 2.7 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed).
Commercial oil and natural gas production in 2024 reached 2.4 million boed and oil production was 2.2 million barrels per day (bpd).
The company also set new annual records for total owned and operated production in the pre-salt layer, with 2.2 million boed and 3.2 million boed, respectively. The pre-salt production volume represents 81% of the company's total production in 2024.
We highlight the main events of the year:
- Start of production of the FPSO Maria Quitéria, on October 15: in the Jubarte field, in the area known as Parque das Baleias, in the pre-salt layer located in the Espírito Santo portion of the Campos Basin. The unit has the capacity to produce up to 100 thousand barrels of oil per day and to process up to 5 million cubic meters of gas. The FPSO Maria Quitéria had its start-up brought forward. Its initial forecast was 2025, according to the Strategic Plan 2024-28+.
- Start of production of the FPSO Marechal Duque de Caxias, on October 30: in the Mero field, in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin. The unit has the capacity to produce up to 180 thousand barrels of oil per day and to compress up to 12 million cubic meters of gas.
- The Sepetiba platform vessel, which operates in the Mero field, reached peak production of 180 thousand barrels of oil per day (bpd) in August, after 8 months of operation.
- Start of commercial operations of the Natural Gas Processing Unit (UPGN), located at the Boaventura Energy Complex (Itaboraí, RJ). The first module, with the capacity to process 10.5 million m3/day of gas, began operations on November 10, and its second module is scheduled to start operating in the first quarter of 2025, reaching an installed gas processing capacity of 21 million m3/day with both modules.
- On December 16, the FPSO Alexandre de Gusmão left the Cosco Qidong shipyard in China, heading to the Mero field, in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin. The platform, which will be the fourth definitive production system in the field, is scheduled to start operations in 2025 and has the capacity to produce 180 Mbpd of oil and compress 12 MMm³/d of natural gas.
The FPSO Almirante Tamandaré is on location in the Búzios field, in the Santos Basin pre-salt, with the anchoring and commissioning activities of the first well completed and is expected to start operations this quarter. The platform vessel has the capacity to produce up to 225 Mbpd of oil and 12 MMm³/d of natural gas, the largest FPSO in South America in terms of oil and gas production capacity. This is the first of six systems contracted by Petrobras to operate at this capacity, and the next five units, which will be owned by the company, include the Búzios 9 (P-80), Búzios 10 (P-82), Búzios 11 (P-83), Atapu 2 (P-84) and Sépia 2 (P-85) projects.
In the Refining, Transportation and Marketing (RTC) segment, total production of derivatives in 2024 was 1.78 million barrels per day, slightly higher than in 2023. Of this total, 69% correspond to high value-added products (diesel, gasoline and QAV), 1 pp above 2023.
Key highlights of 2024 at RTC:
- The total utilization factor (FUT) in 2024 was 93%, which represents the highest utilization of the refining park since 2014, considering Petrobras' current refineries.
- We achieved a record 70% share of pre-salt oil in the processed load in 2024 (an increase of 4 pp compared to 2023), as a result of the optimized use of these streams for the production of higher value-added derivatives and a reduction in atmospheric emissions.
- In 2024, we recorded records in gasoline production (420 thousand bpd) and S-10 diesel (452 thousand bpd). The REPAR and REDUC refineries reached their best marks in gasoline production and RPBC, REGAP, REFAP, REVAP and REDUC recorded historical records in the production of S-10 diesel in 2024 (considering the current park).
- In the year, sales of S-10 diesel represented 64% of total diesel oil sales, surpassing the record of 62% registered in 2023, and we report a 5.8% increase in QAV sales in 2024.
- We have expanded our offering of more sustainable products with lower carbon emissions. These products include Diesel R with renewable content, the CAP PRO asphalt line, Bunker with renewable content and Podium Carbon Neutral Gasoline, contributing to our commitment to a fair energy transition.
- In 2024, we reached the milestone of 100,000 m3 of sales of Diesel R with renewable content (R5) and around 10,000 tons of CO2 emissions avoided. We also recorded a 27% increase in sales of Podium Carbon Neutral Gasoline compared to 2023, with 225,000 tons of CO2 neutralized by carbon credits.
- We received the international ISCC EU RED ( International Sustainability & Carbon Certification- European Union – Renewable Energy Directive ) certificate , one of the most recognized certifications in the market, for the commercialization of Bunker with renewable content at the Rio Grande Terminal (TERIG). VLS ( Very Low Sulfur ) B24 is the result of mixing mineral-based bunker with 24% biodiesel and has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 20%. This certification celebrates the pioneering spirit of Petrobras, which, in July 2024, was the first company in the country to obtain authorization from the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) to commercialize marine fuel with renewable content.
