SIBUR, Russia's largest producer of synthetic materials, and Interkhim-Group, a producer of specialty chemicals, have signed an agreement aimed at supporting the localization of production of modern construction materials.
Under the agreement, SIBUR will provide Interkhim-Group with technology for producing special-purpose plasticizers used in the production of products from synthetic materials, and will also provide the partner’s production with the required volumes of raw materials.
Special plasticizers are used to impart characteristics to PVC products that allow them to expand their areas of application and, in particular, to be used in the production of various building materials.
According to preliminary estimates, in 2024, the Russian market for special plasticizers amounted to about 11 thousand tons. Of these, 60% is dioctyl adipate, which is mainly used in the production of floor coverings, membranes and cable products. A quarter of the market is occupied by the environmentally friendly plasticizer dibutyl terephthalate, whose use is actively developing in the production of floor coverings and vinyl wallpaper.
Cooperation with SIBUR will allow Interkhim-Group to expand the range of plasticizer brands, reduce imports of this type of product and provide Russian manufacturers of PVC building materials with high-quality and high-tech raw materials.
Alexey Sboev, Director of the Construction Division of SIBUR:
“We continue to consistently develop the use of special plasticizers in the construction industry, aimed not only at the technological development of partners, but also at creating conditions for the growth of local production of PVC building materials - from floor coverings to engineering and finishing solutions.
Transferring our technology to Interkhim-Group and providing partners with high-quality raw materials opens up new opportunities for localizing the production of complex chemical products. This is especially important for the construction industry, where demand for modern, environmentally friendly and functional materials is growing."
Sergey Belousov, Director of Interkhim-Group LLC:
"Cooperation with SIBUR is a strategic step for Interkhim-Group. Obtaining advanced technology and stable supplies of raw materials will allow us not only to expand the range of plasticizers, but also to contribute to the development of domestic production of modern building materials. We are confident that through joint efforts we will be able to provide the market with high-quality and competitive products."
