With the acquisition of production and development capacities, Meraxis is reaching the next milestone in its corporate strategy and setting an example for sustainable growth. The Swiss distributor will take over the REHAU Group's compounding plant in Velen (North Rhine-Westphalia) on January 1, 2026. The plant has a production capacity of around 50,000 tons and manufactures PP, PE, and PVC compounds for the automotive, medical, and furniture industries, among others, which Meraxis now distributes exclusively.
Meraxis offers a broad portfolio of polymers—from standard polymers to recycled polymers and biopolymers to engineering polymers (ETPs) and masterbatches. Compounds were already part of the portfolio. With the integration of the plant into the Meraxis Group, the company is systematically pursuing its strategy of becoming a full-service provider and expanding its range to include customized compounds from its own production.
“We can now offer our partners even greater expertise and flexibility from a single source and are less dependent on external sources. In addition to ready-made compounds made from ABS, PP, PE, or PA, we can also produce compounds according to customer specifications,” says Dr. Stefan Girschik, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Meraxis. “Combined with our in-house development department and our many years of experience in sectors such as automotive, medical technology, and various other industries, this step perfectly complements our expertise as an innovative solution provider.”
The plant's product portfolio includes ready-made compounds made of ABS, PE, PP, and PA, soft PVC granulates, ready-made granulates, and masterbatches. "For us as a compounding plant, the move is a logical step. Our production know-how and Meraxis' sales expertise complement each other perfectly," summarizes plant manager Mike Zacharzewski. The plant has a total of fourteen compounding machines and produces an annual output of around fifty thousand tons, with PP compounds for extrusion and injection molding applications accounting for approximately one half. Compounds made from PP homopolymers and copolymers with talc, chalk, glass fibers, or glass beads as fillers are also possible, as are individually tailored mixtures, e.g., with halogen-free or halogen-containing flame retardants, UV, heat, copper, or washing lye stabilization. Custom color settings are possible, as are uncolored compounds. “We have set ourselves the goal of increasing the proportion of sustainable materials in the polymer processing industry. Therefore, mixtures with up to 100% recycled content are of course also possible,” adds Girschik.
Together with its subsidiary Fournier Polymers, acquired in 2023, Meraxis has a presence in more than 30 locations worldwide with sales units or partners. The portfolio is complemented by digital services for efficient procurement and the promotion of sustainability, as well as services related to procurement, logistics, material development, and processing.
