Lotte Chemical is supporting the opening of the 6th "Our Neighborhood ESG Center" in Gangseo-gu, Busan, taking the lead in establishing a virtuous recycling system for waste plastic resources within the local community.
The opening ceremony, held on the 29th, was attended by Lotte Chemical's Head of Communications Kim Young-bun, Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon, Gangseo-gu Mayor Kim Hyung-chan, and representatives from the Korea Senior Human Resources Development Institute and Senior Club.
The Gangseo-gu ESG Center was established as part of Lotte Chemical's resource recycling campaign, "Project LOOP." Based on a business agreement signed with the city of Busan in September 2023, Lotte Chemical has expanded its resource recycling system throughout Busan, opening the 6th Gangseo-gu branch following the first branch in Geumjeong-gu, Dong-gu, Haeundae-gu, Yeongdo-gu, and Jung-gu. With this opening, Lotte Chemical will now support the operation of a total of 9 regional resource recycling hubs, including those in Busan, Ulsan, and Incheon.
The center will operate under a "public-private-business collaboration model" that simultaneously achieves the social values of carbon neutrality and job creation for seniors. Lotte Chemical will provide the necessary facilities, equipment, and training, while Elephant Factory will provide technical consulting on recycling facility installation and operation, interior design, and environmental training. The Gangseo-gu Senior Club will hire local seniors to handle practical operations, including the collection, sorting, and cleaning of waste plastic. The collected waste plastic will then undergo processing at Elephant Factory, where it will be recycled into new products.
Lotte Chemical aims to use this support to enhance the local waste plastic recycling system and practice genuine ESG management. At the same time, it will establish a sourcing foundation that will ensure a stable supply of high-quality recycled waste plastic raw materials.
A Lotte Chemical representative stated, "This Gangseo-gu ESG Center is a meaningful example of how the local community and businesses have joined forces to establish a culture of resource recycling. We will continue to expand our activities through 'Project LOOP' to enhance the value of waste plastic and promote mutual prosperity in the local community."
