PT Pertamina is committed to continuously strengthening its digital transformation through the implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create new business value, including improving the company's operational effectiveness. This was conveyed by Senior Vice President (SVP) of Pertamina Digital Hub, Ignatius Sigit Pratopo when he was a speaker at the Indonesian Petroleum Association Convention and Exhibition (IPA Convex) which took place at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD, Tangerang, Banten, (Friday, May 22, 2026).
Sigit Pratopo stated that Pertamina has also adjusted the direction of the company's digital transformation by prioritizing value creation as a key focus in its Long-Term Corporate Plan (RJPP). This step serves as the company's foundation for building a more scalable AI implementation that will have a direct impact on the business. "In that plan, we set an ambitious target of generating US$300 million in EBITDA by 2027. That is our vision," he explained.
To support this target, he continued, Pertamina is developing the Digital Factory program as an end-to-end digital transformation approach across all business lines. This concept encompasses identifying business pain points, developing a Minimum Viable Product (MVP), implementing digital analytics solutions, and scaling up implementation once the solution has proven to deliver optimal results.
Sigit added that Pertamina's digital transformation is built on a strong commitment from the company's management level. This is realized by establishing a special function tasked with coordinating all of the company's digital analytics and AI initiatives through the Pertamina Digital Hub, and reporting directly to the President Director. Through the Digital Factory program, Pertamina also conducts in-depth analysis of various business pain points before determining the appropriate technology to use, whether AI, machine learning, analytics, or other digital solutions.
"Once the concept is agreed upon with the business, a dedicated team or squad will develop an MVP and deliver the digital analytics and AI solutions. The business will then implement the MVP, and once it proves successful, we scale up. At that stage, we begin realizing real business value," explained Sigit.
Sigit further stated that Pertamina's implementation of AI and digital analytics has begun to show significant results in recent years. In 2024, the company successfully created over US$35 million in value. In 2025, Pertamina raised its target to US$50 million, with realization reaching nearly US$80 million.
Meanwhile, in 2026, Sigit continued, Pertamina has again raised its value creation target to US$150 million. "In 2026, we will also begin implementing KPIs for business units to ensure that value creation can be clearly measured. That's the journey we're currently on," Sigit said.
Sigit Pratopo also stated that Pertamina's digital transformation is also being carried out comprehensively across the company's energy value chain, from upstream, midstream, and downstream. In the upstream sector, Pertamina has utilized machine learning and AI through programs like ChanceX, which has been proven to increase the exploration success rate in one basin by up to 10 percent.
AI implementation is also continuously being expanded into various other strategic areas, such as drilling, production optimization, reservoir management, and various other upstream operations. "We also continue to expand AI implementation across various upstream operations, including drilling, production optimization, reservoir management, and various other areas," Sigit concluded.
