Partnership ensures greater operational efficiency and predictability in negotiated access contracts for the Catu Natural Gas Treatment Unit (BA), strengthening the state's energy infrastructure and ensuring the continuity of gas processing in the long term.
Petrobras , PetroReconcavo , Brava Energia , and Origem Energia have signed long-term contract addenda regarding access to natural gas processing at the Catu Natural Gas Treatment Unit , located in Pojuca (BA) and operated by Petrobras. The contract addenda have immediate effect and ensure the continuity of gas production processing, providing greater predictability to the sector and reinforcing the strategic role of the facility for energy produced in Bahia. The Catu UTG is essential infrastructure for transporting and processing natural gas produced in Bahia's onshore fields . In addition to contributing to the country's energy security , the unit boosts the region's economy and generates benefits for local communities. "In Bahia, this initiative contributes to attracting investment, optimizing existing resources, and creating favorable conditions for the sector's long-term growth," assesses Stênio Galvão, Petrobras' Executive Manager of Exploration and Production. Among the main advances is the extension of the processing capacity guarantee period from 2028 onwards , a measure that increases predictability for the agents involved and reinforces the operational reliability of the Catu Gas Treatment Plant .
The partnership also foresees the updating of the commercial and operational conditions of the contracts, focusing on cost reduction and better utilization of the region's natural gas infrastructure . The agreement reinforces the benefits of free enterprise in building solutions that reconcile efficiency, predictability, and greater use of existing assets .
“The understanding between the companies reaffirms the importance of shared infrastructure as an instrument to increase the efficiency and competitiveness of the natural gas market,” states Álvaro Tupiassu, Executive Manager of Gas and Energy at Petrobras.
"The cooperation between Petrobras and independent producers represents progress for our sector. By strengthening the sharing of existing infrastructure, the agreement enhances the competitiveness of Brazilian onshore oil and gas by increasing operational efficiency, enhancing unit reliability, and promoting the continuous modernization of processes, systems, and equipment," says José Firmo, CEO of PetroReconcavo.
With this initiative, the companies reinforce their commitment to contributing, increasingly, to the economic and social development of the regions where they operate, as well as to a more open, competitive, liquid, and efficient natural gas market .
