PRESS RELEASE

PR INDONESIA Learns Internal Communication Practices from Pertamina

10 Sep 2026

For an organization, communication isn't just about external parties. Equally important is how the organization manages its internal communications. As a comparative study location, PR INDONESIA held a Corporate Communication Experience program by visiting PT Pertamina (Persero) in Jakarta on Wednesday (September 9).

This activity provides an opportunity for corporate communication and Public Relations practitioners from various state-owned enterprises and private companies to learn directly about the internal communication practices implemented by Pertamina.

The visit specifically discussed how Pertamina manages internal communications for its more than 43,000 employees, while also building relationships and trust between the company and its employees.

PR INDONESIA Group Founder & CEO Asmono Wikan explained why Pertamina was chosen as the destination for the comparative study. He stated that Pertamina is considered to be consistently developing internal communication practices that have an impact on the company.

He further said that forums specifically discussing internal communication best practices are still relatively rare in Indonesia.

"Of the many companies in Indonesia, Pertamina is one of the few that has truly implemented various impactful internal communication practices. Through measurable programs, Pertamina has succeeded in increasing the internal solidarity of its employees, transforming them into an orchestra led by its communications team," said Asmono.

He assessed that the internal communication practices implemented by Pertamina were worthy of being study material and a benchmark for communication practitioners in other companies.

"When our colleagues return to their respective offices, they can take insights from Pertamina and then modify and implement them," he added.

Meanwhile, Pertamina's Internal Communication Manager, Sarah, explained that one of the main focuses of Pertamina's internal communications is building trust among workers.

"Pertamina hosted a visit from PR Indonesia. We're here to share the ins and outs of corporate communication, particularly how to build trust with employees, particularly through internal communication. So, we're sharing our experiences on how to manage relationships between companies and employees," said Sarah.

In a separate location, Pertamina's VP of Corporate Communication, Muhammad Baron, explained that managing internal communications for Pertamina is just as important as managing external communications.

"As a very large and long-standing organization, Pertamina certainly needs to ensure that all its employees are aligned with one goal. This goal can only be achieved if employees, as stakeholders, are well-managed, one way of doing this is through internal communication programs," Baron said.

Baron also explained that internal communication activities are no longer limited to corporate events, but rather about how the Company's communication messages can be conveyed well, managed well and ultimately have a positive impact on the company.

"Internal communication is not just about events, but about delivering messages that are understood, comprehended, and have a positive impact on the company," Baron concluded.
