The first video course in chemistry created using AI technology is now available to 8th-graders

The first materials for a video course in chemistry for grade 8, created using artificial intelligence technologies, became available to teachers and students across the country on Prosveshcheniya's (VEB.RF) Lecta educational platform. Over the course of the school year, students will be exposed to seven topics, aligned with the school curriculum.

The project is a continuation of the agreement between Prosveshcheniye (VEB.RF) and SIBUR on the development of school chemistry education, signed in June 2026 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum . SIBUR initiated the idea, combining its industrial and scientific expertise with Prosveshcheniye's (VEB.RF) experience in creating school textbooks and educational content. The video course is planned to be submitted for review for inclusion in the federal list of electronic educational resources. The video course was created as a digital supplement to the school curriculum and complies with the Federal Working Program for Chemistry and the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard. The first topic became available on September 9. Publication of video lessons will continue throughout the school year in accordance with the school curriculum.

This video course combines school theory with real-world problems in modern chemistry and petrochemistry . Each topic consists of four short videos in different formats—a total of 28 videos. They will guide you step-by-step from the explanation of a basic chemical concept and experiment to its application in modern petrochemistry and the development of materials used in the creation of innovative solutions in medicine, transportation, and construction, as well as in the production of everyday items.

"For SIBUR, this project is part of a systematic effort to popularize the natural sciences and engineering professions among schoolchildren, as well as an opportunity to communicate with Generation Alpha in a format they are accustomed to. We are deliberately starting in the eighth grade: their initial exposure to the subject largely determines whether a child will see living science and real opportunities for their future beyond the formulas. Our goal is to show this path as early as possible: from school lessons to specialized education, practical training, and then work in a modern production facility or research center , " noted Danil Rasskazov, Managing Director of Organizational Development at SIBUR .

The video course's goal goes beyond career guidance. Its creators aim to make a child's first systematic introduction to chemistry more understandable and engaging, demonstrating that chemistry isn't just a set of formulas and reactions, but fundamental knowledge about the world that underlies many modern technologies. Even those who will never become chemists will gain a clear language for discussing climate change, new materials, and responsible consumption.

Artificial intelligence technologies make it possible to realistically visualize the structure of substances and chemical processes, show experiments close-up, and then transfer school formulas to a petrochemical laboratory or production facility, demonstrating the essence of high technology and the creation of polymers.

"The joint project between Prosveshcheniye and SIBUR is an opportunity to show schoolchildren that chemistry is a living science that underlies everything around us: from everyday objects to cutting-edge technologies. Thanks to artificial intelligence, the subject becomes comprehensive and accessible. This approach helps them not only absorb the material, but also understand the logic of science, see how knowledge works in practice and opens the way to future professions. This fosters informed choices that begin in school and remain with them throughout their lives ," noted Alexander Tarabrin, head of Prosveshcheniye JSC.

A fundamental part of the project was a methodological review. The video course was authored by Vasily Krasnobrov , a graduate of the Chemistry Department of Lomonosov Moscow State University and coach of the Moscow Chemistry Olympiad team, and Ekaterina Chugunova , Teacher of the Year of Russia 2025 and Advisor to the Minister of Education of the Republic of Mordovia. Practical engineers and experts from SIBUR's research departments also contributed to the creation of the video course . All scripts are edited and methodologically reviewed by Prosveshcheniye Publishing House (VEB.RF). A methodologist evaluates the scientific accuracy of the material, its relevance to the school curriculum and student age, the logic of topic explanation, examples, and visual solutions. Artificial intelligence is used primarily as a visualization tool. It does not determine the content of the school curriculum or replace pedagogical expertise.

The video course is designed for several use cases . A teacher can refer to the video when explaining a complex topic or preparing for a lesson. In the classroom, the video fragment helps demonstrate a chemical experiment or a process at a petrochemical plant, and at home, the student can independently review the material when doing homework or reviewing a missed topic. Parents will receive an additional, understandable resource that will help them understand what exactly their child is learning in chemistry and maintain their interest in the subject.

In the future, SIBUR and Prosveshchenie (VEB.RF) are considering additional opportunities for integrating AI into chemistry education, including through this video course.
