Pertamina Prepares Green Energy Business as New Source of Growth

01 Oct 2026

PT Pertamina (Persero) continues to develop its low-carbon energy business to support green economic growth towards Golden Indonesia 2045. At the same time, Pertamina continues to play its role in ensuring energy availability to meet the community's needs.

Pertamina's Senior Vice President of Business Sustainability, Wenny Ipmawan, stated that these two aspects go hand in hand in Pertamina's growth strategy. The company is reducing emissions from its operations while developing new business opportunities, including biofuel, geothermal energy, clean energy electricity, waste-to-energy, and green hydrogen.

"Indonesia's energy needs continue to grow. Therefore, the energy transition must be carried out gradually, while ensuring energy remains available and low-carbon business opportunities can flourish," said Wenny.

According to Wenny, Pertamina chooses technology according to the needs and characteristics of each activity, including solar power, battery energy storage, and carbon capture and storage.

Pertamina also continues to improve operational efficiency, including through energy savings, fuel optimization, and the implementation of clean energy technologies. These measures help reduce emissions while making operations more efficient.

"We want low-carbon initiatives to not stop at the technology development stage. Projects must also be economically viable and commercially viable," said Wenny.

Pertamina's Vice President of Corporate Communication, Muhammad Baron, said that developing low-carbon businesses is part of Pertamina's efforts to prepare for the future of national energy.

"As a national energy company, Pertamina continues to meet energy needs while also preparing energy options for the future. We hope that the development of low-carbon businesses will support economic growth and provide broader benefits for Indonesia," said Baron.

The decarbonization program has been successfully implemented, achieving emission reductions above the target set in the 2026 Corporate Work and Budget Plan (RKAP). Throughout the first semester of 2026, Pertamina Group's decarbonization program successfully reduced carbon emissions by 118 percent above the 2026 target.

"As a world-class energy company, Pertamina is committed to implementing ESG in accordance with global standards. Pertamina's decarbonization is also a commitment to the government's target of achieving a NZE by 2060," Baron concluded.
