A first trial on a PÖTTINGER specialist's farm has led to further joint testing of our transparent silage film. Our Unterland team visited Grieskirchen to compare notes with the people who build the machinery.
The Coveris Unterland Agri team visited PÖTTINGER in Grieskirchen, Austria. PÖTTINGER develops round balers and baler-wrapper combinations, and a silage film can only perform as well as the machine applying it. Stretch, coverage and bale shape all influence whether the seal holds through handling and storage.
The team presented Unterland Crystal, our transparent silage stretch film, and discussed how it performs under real farming conditions with very positive results. Crystal had already passed its first test outside the factory: a PÖTTINGER product specialist used it on his own farm and rated it very positively.
Both teams have now agreed further trials and will share their findings. The first feedback is very encouraging, and the next rounds should show more clearly how film and machine work together.
Transparency with a purpose
Crystal is a transparent, blown-extruded film. Its clarity is functional: farmers can check a wrapped bale without opening it and spot mould or other contamination early, before it reduces the value of the forage, or worst case, make the livestock sick.
In Coveris testing, Crystal’s protective performance is identical to that of coloured bale. Independent studies have also indicated less bird damage when bales are stored in the field. Because the film contains no colour pigments, it is easier to recycle and can enter a higher-value recycling route.
Why this collaboration matters
Working directly with a machinery manufacturer lets our Agri specialists test material performance against the realities of baling and wrapping, not just against laboratory results. It also shows how our decades of agricultural film experience and extrusion expertise in Austria & United Kingdom translate into practical benefit for farmers.
The next trials are being planned, and we will report back once the results are in.
