The award-winning cardboard-plastic combination consists of a thin-walled plastic cup with a stabilizing cardboard wrap. This design helps reduce the amount of plastic used, compared to a standard direct printed cup, while continuing to meet product protection and quality requirements. By incorporating r-PS, part of the virgin plastic is replaced. The carbon footprint can thus be reduced by approximately 10%¹ compared to previous polystyrene-based K3® multipack cups.

When combined with a cup made from the same polymer, the packaging can result in a mono-material solution that may support easier sorting, depending on local collection, sorting, and recycling infrastructure. Austrian State Prize Smart Packaging for CUBO
CUBO was also recognized during the Austrian Packaging Day, receiving the Special “Innovation” Award as part of the Austrian State Prize Smart Packaging. The award honors packaging concepts that have not yet been fully commercialized but demonstrate significant economic and societal potential.
With its square shape and rounded corners, CUBO makes more efficient use of available space than comparable round cups. The containers can be arranged more densely on pallets and retail shelves, minimizing unused space. As a result, up to 30%² more units can be transported per pallet. This can reduce the space required for transportation and warehousing and may decrease the number of pallets and transports needed.
At the point of sale, more products can be displayed within the same shelf space. Retail staff therefore need to replenish shelves less frequently, while the stable cup geometry supports a neat, consistent, and well-aligned brand presentation.
