Fire erupts at Sinopec Qilu Petrochemical Complex in China
A major fire broke out at the petrochemical complex operated by Sinopec Qilu Petrochemical Corporation in China.
Firefighters had arrived at the site of the incident and were in the process of dousing the fire. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Authorities are yet to determine whether there were any casualties due to the fire.
Sinopec Qilu Petrochemicals operates a petrochemical complex near Zibo in Shandong province of China. The total refining capacity of the petrochemical major is pegged at 10.5 million mt/year with an ethylene production capacity of 800,000 mt/year, polyethylene (PE) production capacity of 1.1 million mt/year, Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and caustic soda production capacity of 450,000 mt/year each, Vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) production capacity of 630,000 mt/year and synthetic rubber production capacity of 300,000 mt/year.
