Papua Mountains, September 24, 2025 - Under light rain, a fuel delivery plane finally landed at Karubaga Airport in Papua Mountains. The fuel shipment didn't stop there, as 5,000 liters of diesel fuel were then transported by car to Kanggime District, Tolikara, and 10,000 liters of Pertalite were delivered to the Balingga District, Lanny Jaya.
"This September, Pertamina's distribution agencies will be able to serve the communities in Kanggime and Balingga Districts. The presence of energy in these two districts in the Papua Mountains is an extraordinary effort by Pertamina Patra Niaga together with all parties starting from BPH Migas, the Regional Government, distribution agency owners to the community as consumers we serve," explained Executive General Manager (EGM) of Pertamina Patra Niaga Regional Papua Maluku, Awan Raharjo.
The journey to Kanggime and Balingga Districts takes considerable time and requires at least two modes of transportation. Fuel travels by transport plane for approximately 45 minutes from Timika, then continues for another 2-3 hours to reach the distribution center. This is all affected by the frequently changing weather conditions in the Papuan Highlands.
Currently, distributors 86,990,03 in Kanggime District and 86,995,32 in Balingga District are the backbone of transportation and the economy in the area. Going forward, fuel distribution to the two distributors will continue to be monitored, both in terms of the quantity needed and the types of products distributed to meet the needs of the surrounding community.
"This demonstrates Pertamina Patra Niaga's commitment to maintaining energy security, ensuring energy access and availability, and affordable energy access to the frontier, most remote, and outermost (3T) regions across Indonesia. We hope the benefits of fuel in these two districts will be truly felt by the community and will advance growth in those areas," Awan concluded.
Meanwhile, the owner of the distribution agency 86.990.03 Kanggime District, Tendimin Yigibalom, also expressed his gratitude for the good cooperation in realizing the distribution of fuel to the remote areas of the Papua Mountains, now fuel is easier to obtain at a price that is also cheap, the same as in urban areas.
"This fuel will be very helpful for people in remote areas, and the benefits will be felt directly by them in their daily activities. Going forward, because this is the first distribution, we will definitely coordinate and communicate how the distribution is being carried out in the field to ensure that the fuel supplied is sufficient for the needs of the people in both Kanggime and Lanny Jaya," he concluded.
