High-density polyethylene (HDPE) prices witness a hike in Europe

This week, HDPE prices gained in the European region.

A European industry source while requesting to remain unidentified informed a Polymerupdate team member, “Prices rose on the back of limited import offers from overseas suppliers. An increase in feedstock ethylene contract values for the month of September 2023 further pushed prices higher. Supplies have tightened over the past few weeks owing to reduced material avails.”

In the spot markets, HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1045-1055/mt FD North West Europe levels, a week on week increase of Euro (+30/mt), while HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1045-1055/mt FD North West Europe levels. Meanwhile, HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1025-1035/mt FD North West Europe levels, a sharp gain of Euro (+40/mt) from the previous week.

In the contract markets, HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1450-1455/mt FD NWE Germany and FD NWE Italy levels, both week on week gained by Euro (+20/mt). HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1450-1455/mt FD NWE France levels, a rise of Euro (+20/mt) from last week. Meanwhile, HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the GBP 1240-1245/mt FD NWE UK levels, a rise by GBP (+15/mt) from the previous week.

In the contract markets, HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1425-1430/mt FD NWE Germany and FD NWE Italy levels, both higher by Euro (+20/mt) from the previous week. HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1425-1430/mt FD NWE France levels, a week on week gain of Euro (+20/mt). Meanwhile, HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the GBP 1220-1225/mt FD NWE UK levels, a rise of GBP (+15/mt) from last week.

In the contract markets, HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1380-1385/mt FD NWE Germany and FD NWE Italy levels, both up by Euro (+20/mt) week on week. HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1380-1385/mt FD NWE France levels, a rise of Euro (+20/mt) from the previous week. Meanwhile, HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the GBP 1180-1185/mt FD NWE UK levels, a gain of GBP (+15/mt) from last week.

FCA Antwerp HDPE film prices were assessed at the Euro 1020-1060/mt levels, while FCA Antwerp HDPE BM prices were assessed at the Euro 1020-1050/mt levels, both sharply higher by Euro (+30/mt) week on week. FCA Antwerp HDPE injection prices were assessed at the Euro 1000-1030/mt levels, a spike of Euro (+40/mt) from last week.

Ethylene spot prices on Thursday were assessed at the Euro 705-715/mt FD North West Europe levels, a week on week increase by Euro (+30/mt).

Feedstock ethylene contract price for September 2023 settled at the Euro 1195/MT FD North West Europe levels. This price represents a sharp gain of Euro 75/mt from its August 2023 settlement levels.
