Polypropylene (PP) prices journey northward in Europe
This week, PP prices marched higher in Europe.
An industry source in Europe informed a Polymerupdate team member, “PP prices rose sharply owing to reduced avails of import cargoes prompting consumers to procure their requirements domestically. Steep gains in upstream propylene spot and contract values further pressured prices higher."
The source added, “Meanwhile, an uncertain outlook prevailing across the product value chain has kept the market on edge.”
In the spot markets, PP injection moulding grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1165-1175/mt FD Northwest Europe levels, sharply rising by Euro (+60/mt) from the previous week. Meanwhile, PP block copolymer grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1245-1255/mt FD North West Europe mark, a sharp gain of Euro (+40/mt) from last week.
In the contract markets, PP injection moulding grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1440-1445/mt FD NWE Germany and FD NWE France levels, both steeply up by Euro (+60/mt) week on week. PP injection moulding grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1430 1435/mt FD NWE Italy levels, a surge of Euro (+60/mt) from last week. Meanwhile, PP injection moulding grade prices were assessed at the GBP 1240-1245/mt FD NWE UK levels, a week on week spike of GBP (+45/mt).
In the contract markets, PP block copolymer grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1520-1525/mt FD NWE Germany and FD NWE France levels, both steeply higher by Euro (+60/mt) from last week. PP block copolymer grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1510-1515/mt FD NWE Italy levels, a week on week spike of Euro (+60/mt). Meanwhile, PP block copolymer grade prices were assessed at the GBP 1310-1315/mt FD NWE UK levels, a sharp increase of GBP (+50/mt) from the previous week.
FCA Antwerp PP homopolymer prices were assessed at the Euro 1140-1170/mt levels, a week on week surge of Euro (+60/mt), while FCA Antwerp PP copolymer prices were assessed at the Euro 1220-1250/mt levels, an increase of Euro (+40/mt) from the previous week.
Upstream propylene spot prices on Thursday were assessed at the Euro 770-780/mt FD Northwest Europe levels, week on week sharply higher by Euro (+45/mt).
Propylene feedstock contract price for October 2023 settled at the Euro 1120/MT FD North West Europe levels. This price represents a sharp rise of Euro 60/mt from its September 2023 settlement levels.
