This week, spot HDPE grade prices drifted lower in Europe.
A European industry source while requesting to remain unidentified informed a Polymerupdate team member, “European HDPE spot prices experienced a downtrend on the back of a decline in demand and lack of pressure from cheaper US import material on offer. A shorter working month in Europe due to Easter holidays coupled with several public holidays in May is likely to further exert a bearish impact on demand from converters. Moreover, demand has also eroded as consumers have been struggling with limited disposable incomes.”
In the spot markets, HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1155-1165/mt FD North West Europe levels, a fall of Euro (-20/mt) week on week. HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1155-1165/mt FD North West Europe levels, down Euro (-20/mt) from the previous week. Meanwhile, HDPE injection moulding grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1125-1135/mt FD North West Europe levels, a week on week decrease of Euro (-20/mt).
In the contract markets, HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1600-1605/mt FD NWE Germany and FD NWE Italy levels, both stable from last week. HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1600-1605/mt FD NWE France levels, remaining flat week on week. Meanwhile, HDPE film grade prices were assessed at the GBP 1375-1380/mt FD NWE UK levels, a rise of GBP (+10/mt) from last week.
In the contract markets, HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1580-1585/mt FD NWE Germany and FD NWE Italy levels, remaining steady week on week. HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1580-1585/mt FD NWE France levels, rolled over from last week. Meanwhile, HDPE BM grade prices were assessed at the GBP 1355-1360/mt FD NWE UK levels, marginally up by GBP (+5/mt) from the previous week.
In the contract markets, HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1530-1535/mt FD NWE Germany and FD NWE Italy levels, both remaining stable from the previous week. HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the Euro 1530-1535/mt FD NWE France levels, remaining flat week on week. Meanwhile, HDPE injection grade prices were assessed at the GBP 1315-1320/mt FD NWE UK levels, a gain of GBP (+10/mt) from last week.
FCA Antwerp HDPE film prices were assessed at the Euro 1140-1180/mt levels, a week on week decrease of Euro (-20/mt). FCA Antwerp HDPE BM prices were assessed at the Euro 1140-1170/mt levels, a decline of Euro (-20/mt) from the previous week. FCA Antwerp HDPE injection prices were assessed at the Euro 1110-1140/mt levels, week on week lower by Euro (-20/mt).
Ethylene spot prices on Thursday were assessed at the Euro 795-805/mt FD North West Europe levels, a fall of Euro (-15/mt) from last week.
European ethylene feedstock contract price for April 2024 settled at the Euro 1260/MT FD North West Europe levels. This price represents a sharp rise of Euro 40/mt from its March 2024 settlement levels.
