Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) prices rise across Asia on tight supply and firmer upstream costs

28 Oct 2026 14:30 IST
This week, PVC Suspension grade prices in Asia moved higher across most markets, with South Asian markets registering the sharpest gains amid higher offers from overseas producers.

An industry source in Asia, on condition of anonymity, informed a Polymerupdate team member, "Sentiment across the Asian PVC market strengthened this week, supported by rising upstream costs, production cuts and higher offers. Shipping disruptions and delayed cargo arrivals, along with ongoing maintenance at some Chinese plants, have constrained supply. Stronger futures on the Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) and improved buying sentiment have further reinforced the upward price trend, while elevated freight rates have increased import costs across the region. Meanwhile, volatility in crude oil prices stemming from escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East has heightened concerns over energy and feedstock costs, adding further upward pressure to PVC production costs in the near term.”

Meanwhile, trade-related developments added to market uncertainty, with the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) recommending the imposition of countervailing duties on PVC Suspension resin imports from China into India. Separately, the European Commission introduced registration requirements for PVC imports from China, South Korea, Mexico and Taiwan, effective October 27, as part of its ongoing anti-dumping investigation. These measures heightened concerns over potential trade restrictions and their implications for future import flows and regional market dynamics.
